MSNBC - Some Experts Say That Natural Food is For the Most Part Long Gone

On 22 September 2010 MSBNBC.com posted a story related to the FDA review of genetically engineered (GE) salmon.  It compared selective breeding and traditional hybridization to genetic engineering noting that "natural" (in their view "wild") food no longer exists. 

The article opens with the line "[w]e have always played with our food — even before we knew about genes or how to change them."   A sub-title draws the reader in further with "Banana vaccines, 'Enviropigs' and Frankencows... Whatever the decision on salmon, it is only the start of things to come."

"Sometimes when science tinkers with food, it works. Decades ago, Norman Borlaug's "Green Revolution" of scientifically precise hybrids led to bigger crop yields that have dramatically reduced hunger. ... Sometimes it flops."
