USDA Funds Farmer Markets to Participate in SNAP Food Aid

States to Receive $4M in SNAP Funding to Promote Healthy Food, Growth in Rural Local Economies By Expanding Wireless to Farmers' Markets

On 9 May 2012 USDA Deputy Secretary Kathleen Merrigan announced the awarding of US$4 million in SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) funds.  States will receive these funds to promote the expansion of wireless technology to farmers' markets that are not currently participating in SNAP.  The objectives of the grants is to provide funding to promote health food, rural economies, local food, and U.S. farmers.
