Guatemala malnutrition campaign
launches public awareness media
in May and June 2012.

"1,000 Days to Change A Life" - Guatemala Malnutrition Campaign Launched by WFP and Radio National Corporation (RCN).

The World Food Programme (WFP) has partnered with Radio National Corporation (RCN) in Guatemala to promote a 2-month Guatemala malnutrition campaign.  Their mission is to raise public awareness that approximately 50% of Guatemala's children under the age of five suffer from malnutrition.  This is the highest rate of chronic malnutrition (49.8 percent) in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Guatemala malnutrition campaign makes the specific point that in the first 1,000 days of a child's life proper nutrition is essential - without this long-term development damage can occur.  The campaign will include broadcast and print media throughout May and June 2012.  The message will be delivered in the capital, Guatemala City and in the rural areas.  It will be made available in Spanish, as well as three indigenous languages - Kikche, Kachiquel and Kekchi.
