Fortified Gum Big Item For Mexico

According to Confectionery News, the hottest item in Mexico's growing confectionery sector is fortified gum.  Analysts estimate that this sector is worth US$1.2 billion with a compound annual growth of 8.9% over the next 5 years (2012-2017).

Analysts are predicting that gum will overtake the chocolate as the number one confectionery category.  Why?  Because the numbers of both young and obese are growing in Mexico.  Nutrition will likely be the choice even when selecting confectionery products. Consumers identify with gum as nutritional but do not apply this reasoning to chocolate.

Competitors in the market:

* 64.2%   Mondelez (Trident)
* 10.2%   Mars (Wrigley's)
*   8.1%   Chicles Canels
*   2.7%   PepsiCo (PISSA)
*    0.9%  Hershey's
